Duke Center for Cerebrovascular Disease

Fellowship Training Program

The Duke Center for Cerebrovascular Disease offers research-based Stroke Fellowships designed to provide training for individuals with the potential to become independent investigators focused on cerebrovascular disease. Both clinical and laboratory-based programs are available. The Stroke Fellowship is open to MDs and PhDs who are US citizens or permanent residents.

Research fellowships are awarded for 2 years. The trainees identify a research project and a faculty mentor to develop a defined, tailored program.  Fellows are enrolled in Duke's Clinical Research Training Program which leads to a Master's degree through the School of Medicine. Fellows can also participate in on-going clinical trials.

Clinical conferences open to research fellows include twice-monthly Stroke Conferences, weekly Stroke Rounds at Duke Hospital, and a weekly multidisciplinary vascular surgery conference. In addition, periodic half-day research seminars are held for fellows to present their own work. Numerous additional seminars and conferences are held throughout the year.

Fellowship training is provided as part of Duke's American Stroke Association-Bugher Foundation Center for Stroke Prevention Research
