A Message from our Chair - September 2019

R OBrienDear Duke Neurology Alumni:

I’m writing to you concerning an important issue facing the Neurology Department at Duke. Several recent studies have shown USNWR rankings have a significant influence over where a trainee decides to  go for residency and fellowship. In order for us to continue attracting the best residents, fellows and junior faculty, it is of paramount importance that our department be ranked as highly as possible on US News and World Report’s rankings of the best Neurology Departments.

Over the past 4 years, Duke’s Neurology and Neurosurgery ranking on USNWR has gone from unranked (2016) to 46 (2017) to 33 (2018) to 23 (2019). Given how the ranks are calculated, we should do even better next year.

An important part of the ranking is our reputational score which is determined by board-certified neurologists and neurosurgeons voting on In order to vote next March, you have to be registered on Doximity by October of this year, which is around the corner.

Registering on Doximity is simple and will take less than a minute. Go to, register (ideally with a work email address) and respond to a confirmation email. Once you do that you’re in their system and will be all done until March.

Thanks so much for your time and for your support of our program.
